In Brief

Kaddu Yaraax is a community association based in Dakar (Yarakh) that uses forum theatre as a primary tool for organising citizen debates on various sociopolitical themes (climate change, gender-based violence, migration, etc.).
For over 20 years, she has been running workshops and a national festival of forum theatre, in collaboration with local partners, to promote democratisation of public speaking in community settings, particularly in rural areas and abroad.
With 17 active members and a broad support network, the association acts as a community development lever through participatory art and civic engagement.

Our Community Roots

Identity

The Kaddu Yaraax Group is a community-based organisation located in the heart of the Yarakh neighbourhood, in the commune of Hann Bel-Air in Dakar. The association consists of seventeen (17) active members, supported by resource persons in its areas of intervention as well as by about thirty supporters mobilised for each initiative.

Mission

Kaddu Yaraax's fundamental mission is to initiate and support community responses to major sociopolitical issues. By relying on a dialogic and participatory approach, the association democratises public speaking to involve all segments of the population in citizen debates.

Its services are designed to encourage public participation and collective problem-solving.

Creation and performance of interactive shows.

Design and staging of participatory shows that invite the audience to analyse concrete situations, propose solutions, and become agents of change.

Scriptwriting.

Creation of original scripts adapted to the themes addressed, in order to convey strong messages and stimulate reflection and dialogue.

Bespoke interventions according to client needs.

Design and facilitation of personalised interventions, adapted to the objectives, context, and specific challenges of each organisation.

Creation of commissioned performances.

Design and production of personalised performances meeting the objectives, themes, and specific needs of clients and partners.

For this 20th edition, the programme is structured around 30 to 35 activities spread over six days of immersion in the Yarakh district and in various cultural spaces in Dakar.
